Sautéed Milkweed pods
I've made these pods stuffed with a mix of different cheeses, bacon, onions, mushrooms and creams but I find that these taste the best when simply sautéed in butter and seasoned with salt and pepper. Also they taste great when you prepare them this way and wrap them in a thin slice of hard salami. The most work is the boiling.
Ingredients:
A bunch of Milkweed pods Water Butter Salt and pepper to taste Directions: Boil the pods in three changes of water for about 2 minutes. Make sure you discard the water and rinse the pot each time. I always make sure I have plenty of boiling water ready in the water cooker to speed up the process. Make sure the pods are covered with water. They will float so keep them down with, for example, a masher. Drain the pods. In a skillet, melt butter and sauté the pods on medium high heat until the pods are brownish. Season with salt and pepper, wrap in a slice of hard salami if you like, and serve. |
